Feedback on Tyrrells 'Added Value' Homework

Assess whether the manufacturing process is the main way Tyrrells ‘add value’ to their potato snack. [10]

Prompt word: assess.

Think – definition, two-sided answer with a brief conclusion.

Your definitions of added value were excellent.

How will you learn all of the A Level Business definitions?

The key skill with assess questions, developing a 'chain of reasoning'.

My effort:

Manufacturing adds value because it involves the transformation process.

Potato’s are grown from seed, harvested, hand cooked, flavoured and packaged in high quality bags.

Tyrrells benefits from this because the costs of the production process per bag will be considerably less than the price they charge supermarkets and other retailers.

The benefit of this high profit margin is that if the product is popular with consumers they will receive a high revenue stream which they could reinvest into the business and produce an increased range of crisps or new products.

The benefit of this is that a wider product portfolio provides increased security in the food industry where tastes are constantly changing e.g. increasing popularity of popcorn.

Your turn
