The Tapas Bar - Homework Feedback

To what extent do you think a good location for Hannah’s and Jonathan’s restaurant is likely to guarantee business success. [15]

What should your answer look like?
  • Definition
  • 2 / 3 substantial paragraphs explaining why the right location is important. (In the context of the Tapas Bar)
  • 2 / 3 substantial paragraphs explaining why other factors are important.  (In the context of the Tapas Bar)
  • A concluding paragraph. (In the context of the Tapas Bar)
Always start with a definition:
Business location involves (in this case) the physical premises where trading occurs.
Sample paragraph:
A key to the success of the Tapas Bar is an accessible location. The fact that they decided to locate close to the city centre meant that city workers and shoppers would not have to walk far to the restaurant.
This is important because the Tapas Bar is very likely to rely on passing trade. Customers are not likely to walk for miles and so being close to the city centre will increase the number of potential customers.
Being close to a number of other restaurants may make their chosen location a lunchtime or evening ‘destination’ for those wishing to eat out. This is important to the Tapas Bar because high ‘footfall’ in an area is key to attracting customers. If Hannah and Jonathan ensure that the restaurant looks welcoming they should benefit from hungry workers or shoppers visiting the area.
Conclusion:
In this paragraph you explain that location is obviously important but is not the sole factor to determine the success of a restaurant. Other factors that you might mention include the quality of the food, the customer service, reputation or even cleanliness.
