A/S Business Studies Homework 2 Feedback

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of buying a Molly Maid franchise rather than starting up a cleaning business on your own.

[15 marks]

Always start with a definition: A business based on the name, logos and trading method of an existing, successful business. To obtain a franchise requires the payment of an initial fee and the further payment of royalties based on a percentage of sales.

You only require two or three advantages and disadvantages. The secret is to develop each point as fully as you can.

Advantage 1: Molly Maid is an established and recognised brand.

This is beneficial for the franchisee as they do not have to spend the time building up the reputation of the business.

As a recognised brand it is likely that customers will have confidence in booking cleaning services. Having strangers in your home is not something customers will be happy about. The reassurance of the company name, uniform, company vehicles mean that Molly Maid is in a strong position in the cleaning market.

A further benefit of having a recognised brand is that customer orders are likely to be more regular. This will be beneficial for a new business and should ensure a steady cashflow.

Advantage 2: Molly Maid provides advice, guidance and training for the franchisee.

Can you add three arrows?

Two more paragraphs for disadvantages and a final concluding paragraph with your judgement.
